Virtuoso Music Player (Android package com.virtuoso.musicplayer) is a free music player app from Virtuoso Technologies. Use it and enjoy it. This page explains what the app does with your information and the terms for using it.
No data collected by us
The app does not collect, store, share or sell any personal data. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We do not run any servers for this app, so nothing you do in the app is sent to us. The one exception is Google Cast, described below, which is run by Google.
Your music and folders
You choose music folders or songs with Android’s own file picker, and the app can only open what you pick. If you use “Scan all phone music”, the app asks for permission to read the music on your phone and only reads audio files. Your folder list and a cache of song details (such as title, artist and length) are saved on your device only. If a storage app won’t give lasting access to a song you add, the app keeps a copy of that song inside the app on your phone; removing the song from the app deletes the copy. Music is played directly from your phone or from the storage app that provides the folder (for example a cloud storage app installed on your phone). Those apps are run by other companies, and their own privacy policies apply to them.
Party Mode
Party Mode plays music in sync on phones connected to the same Wi-Fi network. When you host a party, the party name you choose is announced on your local Wi-Fi so nearby phones can find it, and the song you are playing (with its title and artist) is streamed directly to the phones that join. The phones also send short timing messages to each other. All of this stays on your local network, only happens while Party Mode is on, and never reaches us. Only play music at a party that you have the right to share.
Google Cast
If you play music on a Chromecast or other Google Cast device, the app sends the songs you are playing (with their title, artist and cover) directly from your phone to that device over your local Wi-Fi. Google’s Cast software built into the app also collects anonymous information about casting, such as device discovery and session events and basic device information, and sends it to Google to measure and improve casting. It contains no account or personal identifier and is handled under Google’s Privacy Policy. Virtuoso Technologies does not receive it.
Favourites, playlists and where you left off
Your favourites, playlists, album-art thumbnails and the song you were last playing are saved on your device only.
Permissions
- Music and audio – only if you use “Scan all phone music”, to find songs stored on your phone.
- Notifications – to show playback controls.
- Foreground service and wake lock – to keep music playing when the screen is off.
- Network and Wi-Fi state, and network access – only for Party Mode on your local network.
Backups
If Android backup is on for your Google account, Android may back up the app’s settings (such as your folder list) to your own Google account. That is handled by Android and Google, not by us.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Free app, provided “as is”
The app is free and is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. You use it at your own risk. You are responsible for the music you play and for having the right to play it. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Virtuoso Technologies is not liable for any loss or damage arising from using, or not being able to use, the app, including loss of data or files. We may change or stop offering the app at any time.
Demo music
The included demo songs “Dreamer”, “Chill Wave” and “Carefree” are by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com), licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
